But then again, can you find someone to teach you how to use Linux? The truth is most people learn to use Windows and therefore Linux is harder (than sticking with good ol' Windows) to use after that. Well, anyway, my biggest pet peeve with Linux is how the file system is full of folders with undescriptive names (var, opt, usr) and it's a nightmare trying to find something.

Homeopathy is a crazy beast. It lives mostly off of ignorance and the money it acquires through the exploitation of human emotion. It perpetuates misinformation and supposed "cures" that should have died out a long time ago. To say homeopathy and alternative medicine isn't dangerous is an understatement! I caution myself and others, however, against adopting very rigid pro-medicine ideologies since these can be equally destructive. I will explain...

I am a graduate student in the science field with extensive medical research experience. I believe that anything medically related, including drugs, remedies, procedures, surgeries, etc need to be tested with rigorous scientific method. Without PROOF, these things should never, ever gain ground. Unfortunately, most people are not trained in science, and even those that are can get mixed up in the vast sea of misinformation. You must understand: science is ever-evolving.

Those big prescription painkillers have gone through years and many phases of testing, and a ton of money has been spent on making sure they are safe in humans. It is possible in 10 yrs we will discover that those drugs have been slowly degrading enzymes in your liver, which is leading to deleterious long-term side effects. While unfortunate, we will learn from these events and improve the drugs. The beauty of the medical field is that it strongly relies on science. It may not be perfect, but it never will be. What many people simply do not grasp is how incredibly complex the human body is! Please, do yourself a favor, and look at the cellular pathway of apoptosis:

http://www.sabiosciences.com/pathway.php?sn=Cellular_Apoptosis_Pathway

Now tell me that cell death is simple! All of those proteins behave a certain way, inhibiting or exciting other proteins. The possible combinations are endless! These chemical cascades are present for all kinds of cellular signaling. This is why cancer has not been cured. Like I said, things are not so simple.

When it comes to homeopathy, science seems to take a back seat. Deceit and propaganda prevail. First and foremost, homeopathic drugs are unregulated by the FDA. That means that there doesn't need to be proof of efficacy or safety before going on the market. The companies can literally get away with murder! It is also often hard to find any scientific studies on these products. If they are actually based on scientific proof, one has to assess just how good the scientific study really is. Unless a trained scientist, uncovering flaws in research design, statistics, and conclusions is next to impossible.

Now, it doesn't stop here. If the drug was rigorously tested, is there enough active ingredient in the product to actually cause an effect? If there is only 5 micrograms of the ingredient in the product (which is often undisclosed), and 50 micrograms was shown to be effective in the study, how are you so sure it will do anything? Furthermore, was the drug shown (at the taken dose) to be efficacious above and beyond a simple placebo? These are just a few concerns often unaddressed in homeopathy. It is possible some of the drugs do indeed work, but they are likely rare, and need to undergo significant testing just like any other legitimate drug.

It pays to question things, do your research, and avoid things that are too good to be true. If you don't know where to start, adopt this simple lifestyle: Eat healthy, exercise, take a multi-vitamin, drink plenty of water, get plenty of sleep, and have good relationships with others. Moderation is the key as well. Do these things and you don't need anything else. If you do have medical problems, see an MD and afterwards research his advice, the prescribed medications, and YOUR disease/problem. Thanks for reading, and I hope you live a pleasureful life!

Adaptec's HW RAID cards are pretty useless as well. I owned a 2410SA and that thing was way slower than having the OS do SW RAID using the motherboard connectors. Complete waste of money. I've switched to ARECA and never looked back. Areca makes HW RAID controllers which are lightning fast and reliable - just like Adaptec used to do back in the '90s with their SCSI cards.

So happy to find this blog! A university-educated friend of mine, when I criticized homeopathy, defended it with "Well, science isn't always right either!" It struck me as a perfect illustration of people not "getting" science. It's not about being right or wrong! We have failed to educate the human race on the sugject of science, and we have spent far too much time training them to be gullible, vulnerable, to fast talk.
  At the same time, we've allowed industries like Big Pharma to dominate "medical knowledge" with their marketing-as-"knowledge". Big Pharma has hijacked medicine, just as Corporations have hijacked democracy, etc.
It can actually be scary speaking up.
  Keep up the good fight, and thanks!

Hi,

I am running a SAMBA 3.5.8 Server on Solaris (non global zone) and trying to join MS2003 AD Server.
Indeed it´s possible to create the appropriate computer account in AD, but further authtication fails:

net ads join -d 7 -S hlsif000 -U ******

[2011/10/31 09:02:46.239017,  3] libads/sasl.c:791()
  ads_sasl_spnego_bind: got server principal name = server$@sub.domain.DE
[2011/10/31 09:02:46.436305,  0] libads/sasl.c:821()
  kinit succeeded but ads_sasl_spnego_krb5_bind failed: NT_STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED
[2011/10/31 09:02:46.436725,  1] libnet/libnet_join.c:1978()
  libnet_Join:
      libnet_JoinCtx: struct libnet_JoinCtx
          out: struct libnet_JoinCtx
              account_name             : NULL
              netbios_domain_name      : 'HLB'
              dns_domain_name          : 'sub.domain.de'
              forest_name              : 'sub.domain.de'
              dn                       : NULL
              domain_sid               : *
                  domain_sid               : S-1-5-21-1691891752-616008026-1446451325
              modified_config          : 0x00 (0)
              error_string : 'failed to connect to AD: NT_STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED'
              domain_is_ad             : 0x01 (1)
              result                   : WERR_GENERAL_FAILURE
Failed to join domain: failed to connect to AD: NT_STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED
[2011/10/31 09:02:46.437083,  2] utils/net.c:916()
  return code = -1
root@int-app1

Perhaps I should say, that my winbind service produces following error all the time:
[2011/10/31 09:19:55.543982,  1] winbindd/winbindd_util.c:289()
  Could not receive trustdoms

The configured parameter on AD-site for network security is: Send NTLMv2 response only/refuse LM.

Many thanks in advance
Alex

Hi,

I have setup sambe as you mentioned. However I am getting error while adding the host to domain using net join command.

error:
Failed to join domain: The network name cannot be found

The linux host is able to ping/nslooup to domain controller with IP/name.
Please suggest what could be the reason.

thanks,
Prachi

Our world's water supply comes into contact with microdoses of everything under the sun. I'm sure the water in my glass right now has come into contact with something that would cause the symptoms of some hypothetical illness I may have. This is expected given that those water molecules are likely older than the planet and water has been in circulation around minerals and all life forms for a very long time. Therefore, if homeopaths are correct, then my glass of water here should be a super potent homeopathic cure for virtually all known diseases. I'm sure their comeback is that you have to stand on one leg and shake the water 10 times with your left hand, but it truly all is obvious BS.
