Dog Sick…. but he is better now.
Original thread from my old forums
Well having successfully made it one week with the new puppy I thought I would be getting close to being in the clear. Wrong-o
I came home Wednesday to find Pauline walking out of the house with what appeared to be a almost dead dog. Pico would look up at you and open his eyes if you called his name, but that was about the most he could acomplish. It was pretty scary. Especially since the day before he had found a dead mouse that had been killed with mouse poison while we were over at the farm. So I was kinda worried that it might be because of that, but I thought it would have taken effect quicker than almost 24 hours later.
Pauline had gotten the number of a vet from a guy she works with whose Father-in-law was a vet. We promptly called that and talked to them about it. They thought it might be some ham that I had fed him or the mouse poison and that I should bring him in.
Once we got there the vet started checking him out and quickly decided that it wasn’t mouse poison. While he was checking on him Pico passed what I can only describe as a close to foot long tape worm. It was unbelievable. The vet gave him some tapeworm medicine and decided to take him home with him since he seemed rather dehydrated and to make sure that he got some glucose into his bloodstream.
While he was at the vets house Pico had another bowel movement, which the vet described as “almost entirely tape worms”. According to her there was enough that she believed his intestinal tract was full of tapeworms. According to her the only way there could be that many is if he had somehow eaten a flea that had tapeworm eggs in it while nursing or something. That was something of a relief since it meant that I had not messed up. Especially since his records show that he had been “wormed” twice before I got him.
He spent the rest of the day recovering under the eye of the vet and I picked him up last night. The only bad part of the deal yesterday is that I was in a hurry to pick him up because they closed and I had to cut a conversation with Maxx off short. It sucks because he is off to Korea for about 3 weeks and I won’t be able to talk with him until he gets back. Sorry about that Maxx.
Well that isn’t entirely true. Their is one other bad thing. It cost $172 dollars. That kinda sucks, but at least the dog feels better now and has been checked out by a vet.
He is doing really well and was up playing and stuff last night. I think he is still a little sore from the various things that happened, but all in all I think he is feeling much better.

Nice Digs
Well I am up in Louisville for the weekend running a swim meet for Coach Powell. They put me up in the Drury Inn here. Pretty nice place. Especially since I am not paying for it. Didnt’ get the suite like Coach thought, but he such is life. Dog is doing pretty well with the whole trip… opps…. shhhh.. don’t tell anyone.
Free “High Speed Internet Access” though it doesn’t seem that high speed. My Movie downloads seem pretty slow. Must have a porn leecher checked in.
Snuck Pico in inside a duffle bag. I think he slept through the whole thing. Following in Chichi’s footsteps it looks like. I need to go enter some events into the Timing console though, so better get off of here. Catch me on AIM if you need me.

Red vs. Blue
If you like Halo, or just like seeing people make jokes about things you might want to check these guys movies out.
Again a strong language advisory, but the content is pretty safe.
Short synopsis:
They have used Halo to make moves about soldiers fighting a war with each other, but they aren’t really movies of people fighting, they are more a story of the guys with a lot of great jokes. Quite funny stuff. And their FAQ on the site is pretty good as well.

Sounds like a somewhat bad site, but it isn’t really. The language might be kinda strong for some people, but the content is safe. He talks about all the stuff from when I was a kid.

“Linux is only free if your time is worthless”
Orginal thread on my old forums
Someone quoted this to me yesterday and it really pissed me off. This is one of the dumbest statements that I have heard.
Linux is not anymore difficult to use than anything else. If someone didn’t know anything about computers, and I mean had never even touched one before, and they walked up to a Linux, Windows or Mac machine they would have no idea what was going on. No matter which one they were at.
If they spent a couple days with any of them by the end they would be better on that one than the others. So why do people think that just because they cannot walk up to a Linux machine and instantly do everything that they can on a Windows box, that Linux is hard to understand?
Linux is actually quite simple to use in a desktop situation and once you get used to how it works easy to use in a server situation. It is only when you try to use Linux like other operating systems that it become complicated.
You have to get rid of the bad habits that other OSes have forced you to pick up and learn the new slicker way to accomplish things. The new freedom that you get by being able to control and see the things that are happening on the computer, not just trying to track them down and find the little demons that are causing you problems.
When/If I have kids I plan to start them out running Linux on their computers, not because I am a pruist who thinks they will never use Windows, but because I want them to look at Linux and all operating systems with cleaner eyes than most people. Eyes that aren’t clouded by habits formed from any one specific OS.
