We have had some really crazy storms here lately and the worst so far was last night. It knocked power out at the house till about noon today. Driving around today on the way to work showed a car smashed by a falling tree and about a quater mile of power lines on the ground from one tree branch. It was really amazing.
One branch hit directly on a light pole and knocked it to the ground. The lines on that pole then broke about 10 other poles off as they forced them down. Several of the poles literally looked like little twigs that had been broken in two or three places.
Half of the servers were screwed up when I got to work today, as it seems the UPSes ran out of juice sometime in the night and brought several of them down.
